On top of our house, the little “mumzel” awoke as darkness fell. In winter, it got dark early, but the “mumzel” had to be careful because people were still active in the dark. It was icy cold, and the roof tiles were slippery. If the “mumzel” wasn’t careful, he could slide down.

Fortunately, that was exactly where the “mumzel” wanted to go. Thirsty, he slid down and arrived at the pond in the neighbors’ garden. He usually drank there at night. But this time, the “mumzel” noticed something strange. The water felt different, cold and stiff. He licked it, but his tongue stuck. In a panic, the mumzel started pulling, pushing, and jumping, creating cracks in the ice. It turned out the ice was about to break because of his struggle.

With a jolt, the mumzel’s tongue snapped free, and he fell backward through the ice. Quickly, he climbed out of the water, cold and soaked. Brrr! The “mumzel” ran to the downspout to safely return to the warm nest on the roof before turning into ice.
